The Area
The North East coastal region of Mallorca is virtually unspoilt and retains its striking scenic beauty. We are fortunate to have the largest marine reserve and natural park surrounding us, making this area a walkers paradise.
(The Sunday Times, Travel Supplement of July 2005, said of this area, “…..blissfully undeveloped. Great walking and some terrific beaches await discovery.”)
The golfer has four first class golf courses situated between 2 and 20 minutes away, (one is literally opposite our property!)
Being only 7 minutes away from the coast, we are ideally located for all water sports, as well as for cycling, bird watching, tennis, riding, or even speleology. There are an abundance of archaeological sites to visit as well as a wealth of art and history.
The town of ARTA is only a few minutes away. ( In the words of the Sunday Times, “Arta makes by far the most pleasant base in the east.”) With its sprawling labyrinth of narrow streets it is a charming village to explore. There are many excellent restaurants, cafes and shops, and a very popular market on Tuesdays.
The fortified town of CAPDEPERA is no more than 5 minutes drive away. It is well worth the steep climb up to the 14th century walled castle, which is perched on top of a hill with stunning views towards the sea. There are shops, small supermarkets, restaurants and bars, and a lively happy village atmosphere.
Both CAPDEPERA and ARTA have not been directly affected by the impact of tourism, which has allowed age-old traditions to remain intact and has enabled the friendly, easy going nature of the Mediterranean people to be retained.
Only 7 minutes drive away is the fishing village of CALA RATJADA, which despite the effects of tourism, still retains much of its original character. The local authority have protected virtually all of the areas facing the sea with walkways only, where you can stroll and either visit a local bar, listen to live music, eat at one of the many restaurants or alternatively watch the magic of harbour life.
